School to watch
In 2015, Luther Burbank Middle School was selected by the California League of Middle Schools and the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform as a "School to Watch." Only 7 schools were selected in the state of California and less than 60 nationwide. LBMS is heralded as a model middle school, addressing the needs of our adolescents through academic excellence, developmental reponsiveness, social equity, and organizational structures that support all students.
LBMS was honored with a presentation on campus celebrating the hard work of all involved in the transformation of the school. Teachers and staff also accepted awards on behalf of the community in Sacramento and in Washington, DC.
In 2018, 3 years after the initial award, LBMS was redesignated a School to Watch for their continued progress in and dedication to creating a highly effective middle school.
